NIPR President to Africans: Reject narrative of being second fiddle continent
Politics
IKE Neliaku, President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), says Africans must reject the narrative of being a second fiddle continent in global affairs.
Neliaku was speaking on Monday at a virtual engagement titled: “Glocalisation of African Peace and Security Strategies, Laying the Foundation,” organised by the African Union Sixth Region.
He noted that Africa, which comprises 54 nation states, and blessed with vast human and material resources, should instead play a crucial leadership role in global affairs.
“We must never accept that we are second fiddle to anybody.
“This is the best continent on earth. This is the best creation of God.
“This is where everything started and where everything will be concluded.
“So, we have a continent that is second to none in the world.
“We must not succumb to that wrong narrative, as if we are beggars,” he said.
The NIPR president , who is also the Chairman of the Council of the institute, also urged Africans to adopt love, instead of revenge, in spite of the fact that Africa had been hurt.
“Africa should not be like that prince who walks on feet while the servant rides on horse.
“The time has come for Africa to take its rightful place but with love.
“Africa must wear the personality of love to get healing for the hurt of the past.
“It is not revenge that heals hurt, it is love that overcomes hurt.
“It is one message that I will want to leave us with.
“In whatever we are doing, love will always conquer,” he said.
Also speaking, Ladi Thompson, Deputy Secretary General and Director, Peace and Security, African Union Sixth Region, emphasised the need for Africans to build on the foundation laid by their forefathers.
According to him, this will require sacrifice and money, so that no black child will be discriminated against.(NAN)
