ABUBAKAR Bukola Saraki (ABS) Football Club of Ilorin on Saturday whipped Abakiliki FC 5-2 in a Match Day 2 fixture of the 2024/2025 Nigeria National League (NNL).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the match played at the Kwara State Stadium Complex in Ilorin saw the visitors taking an early lead, in the 22nd minute.
But their advantage was short-lived as Musa Yakub equalised just 60 seconds later.
ABS FC then went on a scoring frenzy, with Jamiu Sa’ad and Jamiu Onikoko finding the back of the net in the 25th and 27th minutes respectively.
Jamiu Olamilekan converted a penalty kick in the 60th minute to make it 4-1, before Onikoko sealed his brace and the win with a goal in the 72nd minute.
Pius Igwe scored a consolation goal for Abakiliki FC, but it was too little to rescue any point for them.
Sani Sardauna, the coach of ABS FC, said after the game that his team was still a work in progress.
“We are not there yet. For you to want to get promoted to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), you must be better than this.
“We have realised the mistakes, which are part of the game, and we will go back and work on it.
“I’m not overwhelmed by this result. I know my standard. I’m a champion coach, and I want to always win and win squarely.
“I’m happy with the boys, but we can do better,” Sarduana said. (NAN)
