NAF Football Club on Saturday beat Abuja city rivals City FC 2-0 in a 2022/2023 Nigeria National League (NNL) Northern Conference Group A2 Match Day 5 fixture.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the match played at the Area 3 football pitch in Abuja saw NAF FC scoring through Amos Karemi and Asuko Smiths.

Karemi opened scoring in the 22nd minute from a free-kick, while Smiths benefitted from Karemi’s assist to double their lead in the 59th minute.

NAF FC are currently in the second position in the group with nine points from five games, while City FC have four points and are placed fifth after five games.

Speaking on the performance of his team, NAF FC’s coach, Yakubu Sambo, said that they were well prepared for the game.

“We have played three matches here and we drew all of them. But our last match was when we first picked the maximum points in the league and today is our second maximum points.

“It’s an assurance that this is our time. We have started winning and we are going to continue this way in the second stanza,” he said.

On his part, Ibe Johnson, the coach of City FC, said his team would brace up in the second stanza.

“We will improve in the second stanza. So far, we won one, drew one and lost three matches in this first stanza.

“But I appreciate our players for a wonderful display in this match, even though we lost 0-2.

“Now we will work harder, and prepare for the second stanza with bigger hopes. We are going to hit our set target.

“We will fight to ensure we win and we will be composed and prepared for our next games,” he said.(NAN)
