The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, is leveraging on the Nigeria Content law to engage indigenous companies in the oil and gas industry
THE Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, is at the forefront of those supporting and encouraging the attainment of the local content target for the industry as it has done in other sectors. It has engaged some indigenous companies including Kaztec Engineering Limited to do fabrication work for the corporation. This explains why Adebayo Ibirogba, group executive director, Engineering and Technology of the NNPC, reiterated the Corporations commitment to continue to promote in-country capacity by leveraging on indigenous companies with requisite technology to add value to the oil and gas industry in Nigeria.
Ibirogba while inspecting the fabrication yard of Kaztec Engineering Limited, an indigenous company, along with some NNPC senior staff from different subsidiaries in Lagos said yard is a model of excellence.
According to him, the Nigerian Content Act of the federal government provides a veritable platform for indigenous companies to operate on a level playing field with other international oil companies in Nigeria.
He said investing in local content would give some advantage to local fabricators, adding that the federal government would ensure total encouragement of potential investors who want to invest locally.
The Petroleum Industry Bill before the National Assembly, when passed into law, would further promote the growth of indigenous participation in the petroleum sector, he said.
Conducting the NNPC delegation round the premises of the yard, John Niezner, managing director of Kaztec Engineering Limited, said the company operates wholly in line with the Nigerian Content Act by engaging Nigerians majorly in all its welding and fabrication operations.
He said most of the engineering designs and materials are locally sourced, adding that the company’s operations contribute enormously to the country’s Gross Domestic Product.
