Protesting National Assembly workers have told the leadership of the chambers that they would not allow the legislators to sit unless they were paid the salaries they were being owed.
They said they would only allow the lawmakers inside the chambers when they receive notifications from their individual banks that the money being owed them has been paid.
They said this on Tuesday to the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; as well as the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who had led the leadership of the National Assembly to address the workers who are picketing the chambers in protest.
Saraki, who addressed the protesters, could hardly be heard as the noise from the workers overwhelmed the public address system he was using.
The workers rebuffed the pleas from the NASS leaders, chanting, “No alert, no sitting!”
They were later asked to move to a hall where both sides could address the issues. – Punch
