A FACTION of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra State led by Ken Emeakayi has declared the party has no candidate for the November 18, governorship election.

“The PDP position candidature for the governorship of Anambra is `vacant’,” Emeakayi announced in Awka, where he gave five days of grace, within which the party would nominate a candidate.

He was addressing flag off of the party’s campaign at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka on Monday, October 16, 2017.

He said: “the candidature of Chief Oseloka Obaze is not acceptable to my group. We are the original PDP.’’

Emeakayi urged the party’s national secretariat to, “within five days to select among four governorship contestants in the state – Chief Stella Odua, Dr Alex Obiogbolu, Prince John Emeka and Chief Ifeanyi Uba – as the party’s flag bearer.’’

Emeakayi warned: “failure to do this, we will have no option than nominate any person of our choice as candidate for the election.’’

He faulted the imposition of Obaze by Peter Obi, ex-governor, as the party’s flag bearer, stressing, “Obaze is not a card carrying member of the party. He is not acceptable to those, who are the original PDP in the state.’’

Emeakayi, then, praised the security network installed by the Willie Obiano led administration, noting that he had system had been working in synergy with the police and the DSS.

“Without this, conducive atmosphere, we could not have had the peace we have been enjoying in the state.’’

Emeakayi, then, urged the electorate to appreciate the efforts of the government of the day and support Obiano.

He cautioned against violence in the forthcoming election, so as to complement the efforts of the governor.

The factional chairman urged all political parties in the state to be law abiding during the election and adhere to the demands of the country’s electoral Act.

Okey Ezenwa, a stalwart of the party at the national level, who also addressed the rally, preached non-violence during the election.

Meanwhile, another faction of the party kick-started a rally at the Holy Trinity Basilica grounds at Onitsha.
