OLUSHEGUN Adekule, the permanent secretary general services office of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,  has said that no nation is celebrated without its national symbols and that Nigerian Symbols should be used as a tool to promote its unity as the nation is “indeed stronger together.” The PS said this in Abuja on Wednesday June 27, 2018 at All Nigerian languages Stakeholders forum, HIYA.

In his keynote address, Adekunle stated that the project is geared towards deepening national grassroots sensitisation on how and why honour should be accorded to the national symbols. He further said that the programme was also designed to enlighten Nigerian Citizens’ on their rights, obligations and responsibilities; and that it would avail the citizenry opportunities for gainful employment and development of state resources through Small Medium Enterprises, SMEs.

In addition, Adekunle reiterated that the role of the OSGF was to help to domesticate the programme in all MDAs as well as with other partners. “This office will facilitate and coordinate the project amongst the stakeholders which also include the State Governments, Local Governments, National Assembly, and Judiciary and will also serve as a bridge between the private sector and government.”

The PS further thanked the organisers of the programme for their zeal in entrenching the honour deserved to our national symbols into the fabrics of our system. He urged the participants to endeavour to contribute their individual quotas to the development and upliftment of Nigerian Symbols in order to give them the necessary value and honour they deserve.

In his remarks, Babajimi Benson, a member of the federal House of Assembly, who was a guest of honour at the event, stated that HIYA promotes and accords respect to the National Symbols, and must be seen as a cultural renaissance which advances unity of purpose in Nigeria. He promised to ensure that all legal tools are applied to make it work.
