No remains found in British cellar search linked with serial killer

NO human remains or items of significance had been found in a cellar connected with the case of a missing girl in a decades-old British mystery.
Mary Bastholm, 15, went missing in the area in 1968, at the time, she was working in the cafe that owns the cellar.
Serial killer Fred West was a suspect in Bastholm’s disappearance and was questioned about it before his death in prison in 1995.
He denied any involvement.
Police began a search into the cellar earlier after a production company, which was filming a documentary in the cafe in the English city of Gloucester found evidence that could be linked to Bastholm.
They said there were six items or anomalies found in the cellar.
“The anomalies were identified by a team of expert forensic archaeologists and anthropologists ahead of the excavation work, with the experts able to determine that the remaining areas of the cellar had been undisturbed since prior to 1968 when Mary Bastholm disappeared,’’ said a Gloucestershire Police statement on Thursday.
“Each area was carefully examined by the forensics team with support from officers from the Constabulary.
“The team worked each day, everything that was dug up was analyzed on-site, and all activity was meticulously logged and photographed,’’ it added.
Further statements from the force and Bastholm’s family will be issued later, it added. (dpa/NAN)
