NOA calls for revival of national values
General News
THE Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Kwara, Mr Olusegun Adeyemi, has called for the revival of national values in the country.
Adeyemi made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Ilorin.
He blamed both government and the citizens for the loss of national value in the country.
”Governments should be credible and live by their words. They should demonstrate concern to the yearnings of the people and stop paying lip service to things that affect the people.
”Our society is lacking in principle as a result of attitude of the leaders, so, what do we expect from the followers.
”People should have a sense of belonging in order to demonstrate patriotism,” he said.
The NOA state coordinator advised that civic education be made a compulsory subject in schools from the primary level.
”This will help catch them young and instill good values in them early enough to grow with.
”People should be made to know their history in order to appreciate their past and prepare for the future,” he said.
Adeyemi admonished that family system that was already crumbling be rekindled.
He also advised that citizen’s participation should be encouraged in activities that impact on them like the upcoming 2023 elections and population census.
”The family which is the first point of socialisation for a child should be cherished.
”The family unit is breaking down daily and most families have lost it when it comes to teaching and instilling disciplines in their children.
”Most parents engage teachers in a fight when their children are punished instead of discipline them, this should not be,” he said.(NAN)
