NOC's Sport For All Commission to hold 2-day seminar in Abuja

THE Olympic Solidarity and the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, have announced that the NOC’s Sport For All Commission will organise a seminar for Fitness Trainers from September 18 to September 19, 2024.

The seminar will be held at the Association of National Olympic Committees in Africa, ANOCA, Jahi, Abuja with not less than 35 trainers expected to attend the event.

The participants are to arrive in Abuja on September 17 and depart on September 20, 2024 and the NOC has provided accommodation for the comfort of the participants.

According to the Secretary of the NOC Sport For All Commission, Augustine Odijie, the programme will be conducted by Adebukola Bojuwoye, an expert in sports and exercise medicine.

He would be joined by Joel Uzamere, who is a certified Master trainer and Fitness Consultant and have been invited to conduct the seminar, while Dominic Funmilola, a professor of Exercise and Sports Sciences from the Kwara State University, who is also a member of NOC Sport For All Commission, will moderate the programme. 

The duo will take the participants through how fitness improves the role, skills and responsibility of a fitness trainer, an introduction to anatomy of the human body, science behind weight loss and muscle gain, essentials of fitness assessment, why we perform warm-ups and cool downs.

They will also demonstrate how to perform cardio and resistance training, how to perform flexibility, equipment, supervision and maintenance and exercise instruction videos (practical).

The states and other fitness stakeholders that have registered to participate in the seminar include Kogi, Taraba, Ogun, Zamfara, Nasarawa, Rivers, Bayelsa, Jigawa, Gombe, Ebonyi, Abia Oyo, Cross River, Osun and Akwa Ibom.

Others are Ondo, Anambra, Imo, Edo, Lagos, Kebbi, Kano, Federal Capital Territory, Enugu, Sokoto and some other stakeholders from fitness organizations.

The Chairman of the NOC Sport For All Commission, Abdul lbrahim, emphasises that the main objective of the seminar is to train resource persons and increase the capacity of the participants to become qualified personal fitness trainers.

According to the statement by Tony Nezianya, PRO of the NOC, the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Habu Ahmed, will declare the programme open.
