THE North East Governor’s Forum (NEGF) has called on the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to consult with state governments in the region, on project locations and priorities.

This was one of the resolutions contained in the communique made available to newsmen by the Chairman of the Forum, Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno, at the end of the fifth meeting of the forum in Jalingo.

The communique stated the Forum’s deep concern over the lack of consultation between the commission and the various State governments in the region, on projects and their locations.

It also decried the slow pace of work on ongoing projects in the region, while calling on the NEDC to consult with the State governments on the development of the North East Masterplan.

The NEGF equally called on the commission to expedite action on the completion of all existing and ongoing projects in the region,

The communique recalled the interaction the Forum held with Commissioners of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) in the region and expressed its appreciation for their efforts at ensuring compliance with the Federal Character principle.

It, however, expressed dismay at the low number of applicants from the region in recent recruitments into some federal agencies, resolving to follow up with all the concerned agencies to ensure that the region got its fair share of the recruitments.

In its bid to reposition education in the sub-region, the communique also said the Forum received a report from the North East Council on Education and had accepted its advisory on the improvement of quality, performance of students and teachers’ screening and training in the region.

NAN reports that the meeting was attended by all the governors – Taraba, Adamawa, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Borno states – in the region. (NAN)
