NASARAWA United Football Club of Lafia on Sunday defeated visiting Kano Pillars 1-0 in a matchday nine fixture of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The only goal of the match, which ensured all three points for the home team was scored by Anas Yusuf, the current top scorer of the league.
The cagey encounter at the Lafia Township Stadium saw Yusuf who is currently leading the scorers chat with nine goals slot home in the 40th minute.
The new invitee to the CHAN Eagles alongside two of his teammates, goalkeeper Galadima Muhammad and defender Victor Collins were a delight to watch in the highly entertaining clash.
The Nasarawa striker capitalised on a defensive error by the Pillars backline, dribbled past the rushing goalkeeper and slotted with a cool finish.
In a post-match interview, Kabir Dogo, Technical Adviser of Nasarawa United, hailed his players for taking all three points against a very experienced Pillar side.
He also expressed optimism that more of his players would be invited to the national team giving their performance.
With this win, Nasarawa United are now 8th on the NPFL table, with three wins, three draws, and three defeats.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Lafia stadium was jam-packed, with fans trying to catch a glimpse of former Super Eagles Captain, Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdullahi who now ply their trade with Kano Pillars.
Rabiu Ali, the oldest player in the league was also on parade for the ‘maisu gida’ side. (NAN)
