NIGER Tornadoes of Minna on Saturday defeated  Rangers International FC 2-1 in the week 20 fixture of the 2024/25 Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Flying Antelopes had earlier defeated Tornadoes by a lone goal in the reverse fixtures at the Bako Kotangora Stadium, Minna.

The masu ngida took the lead in the 27th minute by I. Saraki but Rangers equalised five minutes later through Chinemerem Ugwueze to end the first half.

On the resumption of second half, Tornadoes intensified pressure on the home team which paid off as tornadoes I Okechukwu made it two in the 64th minute to silence the home crowd.

Efforts by Rangers to equalise ended in near misses including a penalty awarded to the team.

Coach Fidelis Illechukwu, in a post match press briefing, expressed sadness over the loss, blaming it on lack of concentration and failure to take their yawning chances by his strikers.

“We failed to take our chances. I apologise to our fans,” he said.

Coach of Tornadoes, Maji Mohammed praised his boys for winning the match.

He said that the team came for a revenge and got it.

“Rangers was the only team that defeated us home and away last time; so while coming, we prepared for revenge and we got it; very sweet,” he said. (NAN)
