DR Ahmed Audi, Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has charged officers and men of the corps on academic qualification upgrade to meet challenges of current dispensation.

Audi in an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Abuja, harped on the role of acquiring knowledge for the development and impart on the society

He acknowledged that mentoring of young officers by superiors served as a panacea to societal development.

He congratulated Dr Tersoo Shapeera, NSCDC Head of Forensic and Psychological Services Unit, for his recently launched book on Forensic Psychology, themed, “Forensic Psychology: A Part Way to Success”.

The CG said that the book would address and serve as a guide to the shortfall of forensic investigation in the criminal justice system of Nigeria.

He said that it would help enhance proper investigation and prosecution of suspects by law enforcement agencies and the court.

“The world is driven by knowledge that was why when we came in, we establish policies that will encourage personnel to leverage on that and develop themselves in terms of academic knowledge,” the CG said.

He further enjoined his subordinates to upgrade their educational qualifications to meet up with best practices and international standards.

“Many personnel have enrolled for Master’s and Doctors of Philosophy (PhD) courses and part of the results is what we are witnessing now in the form of contribution to the body of knowledge in forensics,” he said.

According to Audi, the corps has no fewer than 30 PhD holders which are of great improvement compared to the previous academic qualifications of personnel in the corps.

Audi said that his aim was to leave the corps better than how he met it while ensuring that the service supports personnel with intentions to get upgraded professionally. (NAN)
