NSIP: FG trains 60 independent monitors in Niger
General News
The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, has trained 60 Independent Monitors, to appraise the implementation of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) in Niger.
The Minister, Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouq, who inaugurated the training on Tuesday in Minna, said that the ministry had so far prepared 3,000 independent monitors nationwide to appraise the NSIP.
Umar-Farouq, who was represented by Mrs Bilikisu Damisa, her Special Assistant on Monitoring and Evaluation, explained that the independent monitors were trained to monitor the five components of the NSIP.
She listed them to include; the Home Grown School Feeding, N-Power, Conditional Cash Transfer, Government Empowerment and Enterprises programmes.
“Independent monitors are one of the important components of NSIP, we have them in every local government where the programme is being implemented.
“They will be given the requisite training and working tools, and they are expected work hand in hand with the state’s NSIP team for a successful implementation of the programme,” the minister said.
Umar-Farouq warned them against intimidation of beneficiaries of NSIP, as those found culpable would be handed over to the appropriate authority.
In her remarks, Mrs Amina Gu’ar, the Focal Person of NSIP in Niger, said the programme needed proper monitoring to ensure the attainment of its objectives.
According to Gu’ar, the monitors were selected based on their experience and integrity.
“Your job is not to witch-hunt anyone, but to correct mistakes and help address challenges for the successful execution of the programme,” she said. (NAN)
