NTTF Unveils German Coach
Sports Briefs
–
THE Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, NTTF, has unveiled Martin Adomeit, a former Germany national coach, as its new technical adviser.
Adomeit, who guided Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri to the quarterfinal stage of the 2014 ITTF World Cup in Dusseldorf, Germany, is to manage the nation’s representatives in the table tennis event at next month’s All Africa Games, AAG, in Congo Brazzaville.
At the unveiling held in Lagos, August 24, Banji Oladapo, immediate past secretary-general of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, who stood in for Wahid Oshodi, the NTTF president, said the need to acquire the German became necessary “because of the singular honour the German brought to the country at last year’s ITTF World Cup in Dusseldorf, Germany, where he guided Aruna Quadri to the quarterfinal stage.”
Ogunbiade said: “It is important to understand the reason we need the German at this point in time. Adomeit is to tinker the players, correct them as we all know that they are professionals. The German is coming with lots of experience and those that stand to game from this are the players themselves and the coaches.
“But one thing I must emphasise here is that the President of the Federation, Barrister Oshodi worked tirelessly with the German to ensure that Quadri achieved the feat of being the first African to be at top 30 in world the ranking.”
Adomeit expressed appreciation for the opportunity, saying: “It is a pleasure to be here in Nigeria. Table Tennis is such a complicated game and the coaches in this team have to work together to ensure success. As for me, I have a lot of experience; but more and better ideas are needed to achieve success though the players are the gladiators.”
The appointment of Adomeit, the NTTF disclosed was made possible by the financial support of the National Sports Commission, NSC.
