THE Nigeria  Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commended Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State for remitting N548 million to the  Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Endwell Scheme.

The remittance of the N548 million to the scheme followed the resolution of a dispute that had lingered since 2021 between the government and NUT in the state.

The State Council of the NUJ made the commendation in a communique issued on Saturday after its monthly congress in Kaduna.

The communique was signed by the communique drafting committee Chairman, Ango Bally; its secretary Emmanuel, Austine Agbo, as well as the Secretary of the council, Gambo Sanga.

The council also  praised the Governor for being media-friendly, saying,  ‘’this is  taking into cognisance the impressive number of journalists appointed in his cabinet since he assumed office in 2023.’’

The council said that Sani was a promoter of the rule of law, describing him as “someone who respects the  traditional institution, following his reinstatement of the dethroned Chief of Piriga Chiefdom, Chief Jonathan Zamuna.”

According to the union, the governor have acted  in compliance with the judgment of the National Industrial Court that nullified Zamuna’s  dethronement by the past administration of Gov. Nasir El-Rufai.

“Gov. Sani also complied with all the judgment terms, including the payment of N10 million damages, Chief Zamuna’s salary and other entitlements,” the communique noted.

The council also commended Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, for  his collaborative efforts with the governor in restoring peace in most vulnerable areas in rhe state.

They include: Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Zangon Kataf, and Chikun Local Government Areas.

The council, however, expressed serious concern over the recent renewed attacks in some parts of the state.

This was particularly in Kauru, Sanga, Kajuru, and Kachia Local Government Areas and commiserated with the victims of the attacks.

The council  also congratulated the governor  on his conferment of  “Governor of the Year Award’  by ThisDay Newspaper and Arise News TV.

It added, “The award is a  testament to his achievements in rural development;  his non-kinetic approach to addressing security challenges.

“It also underscored his inclusive governance policy, which had restored relative peace and harmony in the state.’’ (NAN)
