NULASS clears 17 candidates for Union election

THE Union of Lagos State Students’ (NULASS) Independent Election Committee on Thursday said that 17 candidates had been screened and cleared for various positions in the union’s forthcoming election.
Paraiso Ismaila, Committee Chairman, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that arrangements had been made for the election to hold on May 15, at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka.
“We were constituted as “INEC” for the 2021 election on May 4, and did the needful after which, we accepted the nomination forms filled by interested members.
“After carefully going through the candidates’ forms, we screened them and we have confirmed that 17 of them can contest, they are expected to make themselves available on May 15 for the election.
“We all know that to revitalize our union we have to rekindle the faith of members not only in this election but in each other, believing that revitalization and rejuvenation should begin with us,” Ismaila said.
He solicited for a maximum corporation of members of the union on the election day and assured them that the committee would live up to the expectation of a free and fair exercise.
“We are aware that the true measure of success for us is not what we promised, but what we deliver, to achieve a credible election,” he added.
He told NAN that some of the candidates vying for positions were: Akinola Moshood Shasanya for the post of President from University of Lagos (UNILAG), Taiwo Ismail Babatunde, also vying for President from Lagos State University (LASU).
“For the post of Vice President 1, Olufowobi Hafiz Remilekun from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
“For the post of Vice President 2 is Opeseyi Qoyum Adegboyega from LASU, while Edu Adam Olayiwola from Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Poka is vying for General Secretary.
“The other positions being vied for are Treasurer, Financial Secretary and Auditor. (NAN)
