Nurse seeks custody of 2 children
Judiciary
A nurse, Naja’atu Nuhu, on Thursday dragged her former husband, Kabiru Ishaq before a Sharia Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, seeking custody of their two children.
She alleged that the former husband leaves them unkept and doesn’t pay their school fees.
Naja’atu who lives in Tudunwada, Kaduna, said that the children’s school had called her several times to complain of their dirtiness and unpaid school fees.
She said the children who are eight and five years old would stay under the care of her mother whenever she goes to work.
She prayed the court to grant her custody of the children and N20, 000 for their monthly upkeep.
The Defendant, Ishaq who also lives at Tudunwada, Kaduna, denied the allegations of living the children unkept and not paying their school fees.
He said every Friday, he takes the children to spend time with their mother, but they would later come back to tell him that their mother went to work and their grandmother sent them back to him.
“The children used to tell me that their grandmother usually sends them to go back to their father’s house in unpleasant and insulting manner,” he said.
He said the children are very well kept under his mother and he has maintained his responsibility as a father.
The Judge, Murtala Nasir, after listening to both parties, urged them to dialogue and agree on who should take custody of the children.
He adjourned the case until Sept. 14, for the parties to report back their terms of settlement. (NAN)
