NUT Enugu chapter gets new chairman

THEOPHILUS Odo has been elected as the chairman of National Union of Teachers (NUT) Enugu chapter to spearhead the union affairs for the next four years.
Odo was elected unopposed on Wednesday along with others to lead in Enugu.
Speaking before the announcement of the members of the new administration, the chief returning officer Mr Jamiu Idris said that the executives were elected unopposed.
Idris who is the Secretary NUT Kwara State noted that this was the first time that Enugu NUT chapter had people elected unopposed.
He urged them to work in harmony to take the union to a greater height and also to accommodate programmes to better the welfare of the teachers.
In his acceptance speech, Odo thanked the union, adding that he was highly honoured for the privilege given to them to serve.
“I appreciate the immediate past administration under the pragmatic leadership of Mr Paul Nnaji whom did much for the teachers and I pray God to reward you favourably.
He reminded the teachers that they were the major stakeholders in the education of children adding that no nation could rise above the quality of its teacher.
“Furthermore, let me remind the newly elected state officers that to whom much is given, much is also expected.
“Teachers of Enugu State have entrusted their welfare into our hands and I hereby urge all of us to work together and justify this confidence reposed on us.
“To my comrades who were not elected today, I assured you that you have virtually lost nothing because we will always work with you to ensure that the interests of our teachers are protected,’’ he said.
In his farewell addresses, former Chairman Paul Nnaji thanked the members for sticking with him for the years he has paddled the state union affairs.
“In my tenure, there has been a team work and we are not dissolving the office of the chairmanship but serving out.
“I want to thank you all for your maximum supports you gave me during my tenure and I will equally want you to do the same to the new executive for the purpose of continuity.
Other executive members elected were Messrs Christopher Isife as the deputy chairman, Philip Mba as treasurer, Sylvanus Egbo as the publicity secretary while Mrs Cecilia Atigwe emerged the Secretary
