THE National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) says inmates in correctional centres are being sensitised on the hopes and assurances of a better life after their release, in collaboration with Miroawiwe Foundation.

Mr David Aladeotan, the Vice-Chairman, NYCN, Lagos West Chapter, in a news briefing on Friday in Badagry, explained that Miroawiwe Foundation was a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO).

According to the Vice-Chairman, correctional centres in Lagos West senatorial district will be visited during the sensitisation.

Aladeotan said that the sensitisation was organised under the Welfare Support Scheme, dedicated to assisting vulnerable individuals, including those in correctional facilities by advocating improved welfare policies and social interventions.

“The inmates need to feel a sense of belonging and be made to understand that the future is bright with all opportunity open to them.

“It is only through this kind of programme that the inmates can feel they are part of the society, thereby making them responsible individuals after serving their terms,” he said.

Also, Mr Miroawiwe Hunga, the Founder of Miwawiwe Foundation, said they were determined to remove youths from the streets.

According to him, this will make them feel a sense of importance as nation builders through various philanthropic programmes.

Hunga, a philanthropist, said the foundation’s mission reached out to every individual, irrespective of status, while many of the foundations programmes included donation of materials to schools and renovation.

He also said the programme was geared towards supporting the THEMES plus agenda of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration on taking the youths off the streets. (NAN)
