THE level of compliance with age regulations for the National Youth Games by the Anambra contingent has been described as excellent.

Olu Sule, Consultant to Anambra Sports Development Commission, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the conclusion of the screening exercise on Friday night.

Olu said Anambra had come to compete fair and clean, given that the games are essentially a development programme.

He commended the Sports Commission Chairman, Patrick-Estate Onyedum, for insisting that the bulk of athletes in the team should be those discovered at the School Sports Festival held in June.

He said while it was important that the state won, they should also help the Federal Government achieve the purpose of the youth games which was developmental by ensuring that athletes of the right age were presented for competitions.

“I must tell you, this is one of the best screening results and also one of the best in this competition, I am particularly impressed.

“Out of the 128 children we presented, about 97 per cent made it and some of them were due to errors which we are still trying to correct,” he said.

Sule said the morale in Anambra camp was high and that athletes and coaches were ready to do the state proud.

He said “Solution Kids, like we call them, are ready, we are appreciative of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for the support he has given us ahead of this Games.”

The 7th National Youth Games started on Sept. 20 and would end on Sept.30.

Anambra would take part in 18 events – Athletics, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Chess, Cricket, Gymnastics, Judo, Karate, Rugby, Scrabble, Swimming, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball, Wrestling, Weightlifting and Wushu Kung-Fu. (NAN)
