NYG: Swimming federation harps on exposure of young swimmers

NIGERIA Acquatic Federation (NAF) says plans are on to expose young swimmers in the country to regular competitions.
President of the Federation, Mrs Chinoye Aliyu stated this while adressing newsmen on Saturday at the ongoing national youth games in Asaba,Delta.
She said the federation is using the ongoing youth games to select swimmers for the Africa Zone two Swimming Championship scheduled to hold from Oct. 6 -10 in Accra, Ghana.
“Nigeria will be participating in the Swimming Championship, so we
are starting camping in October with both junior and senior swimmers expected to be in camp.
“This national youth games is a huge opportunity for us to select young swimmers for the championship.
“Don’t forget we are the defending champion and we need to go with our best swimmers for a positive result”, Aliyu said.
She expressed satisfaction with the performance of the young swimmers taking part at the games, and harp on the need for more competitions for them to grow in the sport.
“We need more competitions for our young swimmers, I can tell you that as a federation, we are working on getting more grassroots competitions for them.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Aliyu is the chairperson of the protocol and ceremonial committee of the 8th national youth games.
According to her, presentation of medals for the games has commenced with a total of 1,800 medals up for grab. (NAN)
