No fewer than 1,600 Batch ‘A’ corps members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kogi were discharged from their one year service on Thursday, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Rev. Adedapo Tayo, the Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations, NYSC, disclosed this in an interview with NAN on Thursday in Lokoja.
NAN reports that the passed out corps members received their discharge certificates simultaneously in the 21 local governments of their primary assignments across the state.
Tayo gave thanks to the Almighty God for keeping the lives of the corps members, saying no life was lost during the period under review.
He said that two corps members: Dr Alabi Boluwaji, KG/18A0445 and Seun Oyelude, KG/18A0007, received the State’s Honours award.
”As part of the end of service year activities, the corps members engaged in sanitation projects, visitation to Federal Prisons and Orphanag in the state.
”Also, the corps members, on Wednesday, celebrated their end of year programme at the Glass House, in Government House , Lokoja, for impactful and successful service year with several dignitaries in attendance,” Tayo said.
The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mrs Oludolapo Ahile, described the Batch ‘A’ corps corps members as very unique with outstanding community development initiative projects.
Ahile also commended the out-gone corps members for their participation in the recent elections.
The state coordinator praised the Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for providing conducive environment for a peaceful service year through ongoing improvement in the camp facilities.
Ahile also applauded the people of the state for their hospitality toward the corps members and the security agencies for ensuring watertight security strategies for corps members at their locations and lodges.
One of the out gone corps members, Ignatus Ibe, an indigene of Imo State, told NAN that the service year had helped him to know more about the people and culture of Ebira in Kogi central.
“My service year has taught and exposed me to a lot of things and added to my knowledge and experiences,“ he said.
