BRIG.-Gen. Sulaiman Kazaure, the Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), on Thursday, urged corps members to be security conscious and shun social vices during their service year.

Kazaure gave this advice during his official visit to the Rivers Permanent Orientation Camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area, Rivers.

“Avoid indecent dressing, stay away from social vices, restrict your movement and don’t keep late night.

“I urge you to be good ambassadors of your state, Nigeria and the NYSC,” he added.

He urged the Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Corps members to contribute their quota to national development selflessly and also be of good conduct in their primary places of assignment.

Kazaure explained that the scheme was all about unity and national integration, urging them to take the scheme’s skills acquisition programme very seriously.

“You are my children, I don’t want you to go about seeking for white collar jobs that are no longer available.

“So you need to take the NYSC Skills Acquisition Entrepreneurial Development (SAED) programme very seriously,” he said.

Earlier in his address, Mr Chinwendu Chukwu, the NYSC State Coordinator, informed the DG that the armoured cable transmitting power in the camp had been vandalised and stolen by hoodlums.

“On my resumption, while inspecting facilities in the camp, we noticed that the armoured cable transmitting power from the national grid and power generating plant has been vandalised and stolen.

“We quickly replaced the damaged armoured cable to ensure that there is no blackout during the orientation exercise,” he said.

Chukwu disclosed that he would engage local vigilante groups in the host communities to assist in the security of the camp. (NAN)
