THE National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Niger says it will partner with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to cover its  activities and programmes for the development of the scheme.

Mrs Abdulwahab Olayinka, the State Coordinator, NYSC, made the call on Tuesday, when she paid a courtesy visit to the NAN Zonal Office in Minna.

“The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has been projecting the NYSC well in Niger;

I want to appreciate you for that.

“I want to let you know that we will still lean on you to project us by covering our activities and programmes for the development of the NYSC and the state.

“This visit is to let you know that we will continue to work together for the good of the NYSC in Niger state,” she said.

Olayinka, however said that the scheme was planning a free medical outreach for some communities in the state.

Responding, Alhaji Mohammed Baba Busu, Manager, NAN, Minna Zone, assured the NYSC team that the agency would maintain the already existing cordial relationship with the scheme in the state.

“I want to assure you that our existing cordial relationship will continue.

“Be rest assured that all your activities will be given due attention.

“We will do everything possible to publicise your activities and programmes because of what the NYSC represents in the country,” he said.

Baba-Busu said that since NAN was established to foster unity of the country, the agency would do everything possible to encourage the scheme.

NAN reports that the NYSC scheme was created in the effort to reconstruct, reconcile and rebuild the country after the Nigerian Civil war from 1967 to 1970.

The unfortunate antecedents in our national history gave impetus to the establishment of the NYSC by Decree (now Act) No. 24 of May 1973 which states that the NYSC is established “with a view to the proper encouragement and development of common ties among the youths of Nigeria and the promotion of national unity”.

On the entourage of the co-ordinator were Mrs Nnenna Chukwu, Zonal Inspector, NYSC, Minna; Mr Peter Akawu, Head, Redeployment and Relocation; Mr Hussein Yahaya, Personal Assistant to the State Coordinator and Mr Oga Samuel, Head, Press and Public Relations. (NAN)
