THE Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has honoured one of its distinguished alumni, Prof. Yusuf Ali, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), with the academic research excellence award.

The OAU Academic Research Excellence Awards 2024 (second edition) was held at the Oduduwa Hall of the university on Tuesday, in Ile-Ife.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Simeon Bamire, congratulated the awardee for his remarkable achievements demonstrated by exceptional contributions to knowledge-based accomplishments, both nationally and globally.

Bamire said that Ali’s selection for the esteemed award was a testament to his outstanding dedication and significant impact on society, particularly in the advancement of law and legal practices in Nigeria and worldwide.

Also, the Keynote Speaker, Prof. Sola Akinrinade, who doubles as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Osun State University, commended Ali for his exemplary commitment, focused with doing something different to others .

Akinrinade admonished people to be persistent in all things, so as to raise the next generation without complaint.

The speaker also charged all Nigerians to prioritise integrity by making it their watchword.

He also advised outstanding members of the public to strive to carry others along in order not to be the only star in the continent.

In his remarks, Ali attributed all his success to Almighty Allah.

“Receiving this award is not a reflection of my individual efforts, but testament to support, guidance, mentorship, encouragement and inspiration that I have received from my teachers, mentors, family and peers.

“It is a reminder that success is not a solidarity pursuit but a collaborative effort that requires a village of supporters to lift you up, cheer you on, drum support for you and believe in your potentials,” he stated.

Ali advised the students to be good ambassadors for the future of the society, and leaders, innovators and change-makers of tomorrow.

“You have the power to shape the world, to make a difference and leave lasting impact and legacies on those around you.

“Believe in yourself, trust in your abilities and have faith in your capacities to achieve greatness; remembering success is not a destination but a journey.

“It is a continuous process of growth and improvement, always try to better your best, challenge yourself to reach new heights, to push beyond your comfort zone and to strive for excellence in everything you do,” the legal icon said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the high point of the event was Ali’s award of scholarships to 320 best students of the institution. (NAN)
