Obasanjo refutes statements claiming he endorsed Tinubu for President

FORMER Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has denied endorsing Bola Ahmed Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Party, APC, candidate, when he visited him in Abeokuta.
The denial is sequel to statements from some supporters of Tinubu that the former president endorsed him after he visited him on Wednesday, August 17, in Abeokuta
Realnews reports that after the visit, Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the House of Representatives, who accompanied Tinubu, told journalists that Obasanjo supported the ambition of Tinubu as one of the presidential candidates in the 2023 election.
This must have prompted Kehinde Akinyemi, special assistant on Media to Obasanjo, to issue a statement on Saturday, August 20, describing such statements coming from those claiming to be supporters of Tinubu about the visit as unhelpful. According to Akinyemi, discussion during the visit was “more brotherly than political”, adding that Obasanjo has neither agreed nor disapproved of the request from Tinubu. “Those claiming to be insiders at the meeting issuing statement on the discussion and those crediting to me statement I had not made are enemies of the visitor and are not doing the visit any good,” he said.
Realnews reports that Tinubu, accompanied by APC chieftains from the South West, including Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, visited Obasanjo at the former President’s private penthouse residence within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library.
