…says disagreements, differing opinions are a natural part of any group, society

By Victoria Frances

PETER Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, has appealed to his supporters not to Kenneth Okonkwo as a mole but his beloved brother and trusted ally.

Obi, also the former governor of Anambra State, stated this in his reaction to Okonkwo’s statement that he is no longer with him because he Obi has not displayed leadership qualities to convince him that he will protect his victory if he wins.

In a series of tweets in his verified X handle, he said: “Yesterday, I read my dear brother Kenneth Okonkwo’s open letter in which he expressed differing views with me on the skirmishes in our party. And today I saw various responses to the letter.

“I want to therefore categorically and emphatically declare that Barrister Okonkwo remains my beloved brother and a trusted ally. I sternly caution against referring to him as a mole or making any negative remarks. Barr. Kenneth Okonkwo has stood by me through thick and thin, and his loyalty and commitment cannot be overstated or diminished.

“Disagreements and differing opinions are a natural part of any group, society, or movement, and it is essential to maintain a level of respect and decorum even when we disagree.”

He said that “Having differing views does not make someone an enemy, and it is crucial to engage in constructive dialogue rather than resorting to personal attacks or negative remarks.

“In fact, to me personally, I don’t want to work with anyone who always agrees with me, because as a leader, learning and listening are critical components of leadership. I want to listen to those who have different opinions and try to convince them otherwise or take their advice if it is better.”

Obi urged “all believers of a New Nigeria to remain strong, resilient, and focused, and to refrain from discouragement or negative remarks towards Barrister Kenneth Okonkwo or anyone who leaves or disagrees with our views, strategies or tactics.

“My message is clear and simple: unity, respect, and civility must prevail, even in the face of disagreement and variance. -PO

However, some netizens reacted positively to obi’s’ post commending his leadership deals.

One of the Oke O Matarazi @OMatazi X handle said: “A true ally is one who stands by you through thick and thin, even when opinions differ. Disagreements are natural and do not turn friends into foes. Respect and unity must prevail, for a journey shared in loyalty is worth more than one walked alone in agreement.”

Another netizen named Chimezi @ Mr_francis55 X handle said: “The man with leadership at his palms, we love the approach of leadership.”

Also, Ada Ray @dubbis X handle said: “You are indeed a great leader. Ideas might differ, but it is not a reason for bad blood or rancour. Duly noted sir!”

Awake @AwakeUche X handle, replied, saying: “I won’t lie I was irritated with Kenneth on how he tried to make you look bad even when I understood his views for leaving. You cannot defeat the devil by playing his games.”

Replying, PhanuelChrioni @phanuelchrioni said: “This Man hmmmmm. You are near perfect. I have never seen your type of person before….Na waooo. Even Kenneth self go dey shame for the decision im take”
