SINCE the announcement of February 25 presidential results, supporters of political parties whose candidate lost have created parody accounts peddling false results.

One of such parody accounts, @Niger_activist, using Datti Ahmed’s image tweeted that Obi is the winner of the presidential election. Realnews checks revealed that the accoiunt is not Ahmed Datti’s verified twitter account.

The parody account created with the name of Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, has claimed that Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the party, is the actual winner of the February 25, 2023 poll.

The account disclosed on Monday that Obi won the election in 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, while the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, won in 8 states, followed by the All Progressive Congress, APC which won 7 states, while the New Nigeria People’s Party won in 2 states.

In the tweet reads: “Breaking: results obtained from IReV shows that Peter Obi is the winner of the 2023 presidential election.

“It’s going to be a long ride, but stay with me. INEC did Tinubu dirty”.

Recall that the election has been fraught with a lot of controversies emanating from the Jettisoning of the use of B-Vas machine to electronically transmit the results from the polling units.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had, however, gone ahead to announce Bola Ahmed Tinubu, candidate of the APC as winner of the election on March 1, against the outcry from stakeholders and opposition political parties.

Nigerians have been warned to beware of misleading tweets

The disclosure by Datti-Ahmed seemed to have emanated from scrutinizing the electoral materials used by INEC to arrive at the result of the election by Labour Party as ordered by the Federal High Court.

Recall that the Lagos State chapter of the Labour Party had secured a court order compelling INEC to upload all results on its Result Viewing Portal, IReV after collation by presiding officers in each polling unit.

The party had approached a Federal High Court in Lagos, urging it to order INEC to transmit all votes immediately counting is completed at polling units.

The electoral body was also asked to ensure delivery of voting materials to all polling units in Lagos.

Ruling on the application, the judge said: “That leave is hereby granted to the Applicant to apply for an order of mandamus compelling the Defendant and all its agents and/or their privies or any persons acting under their directions to comply with and enforce the provision of clause 37 of the REGULATIONS AND GUIDELINES FOR THE CONDUCT OF ELECTIONS, 2022 for the conduct of the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in Lagos State”.
