NO fewer than 400 students of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, COOU, have been empowered by wife of Anambra State Governor, Ebelechukwu Obiano.
The beneficiaries drawn from various departments in the institution during her visit, praised the governor’s wife for gesture.
Addressing the students, Obiano, re-stated the commitment of Governor Willie Obiano toward maintaining an all-inclusive government.
She noted that youths and students in the state were not left out of the administration as “he runs a robust youth-cantered government’’.
Ebelechukwu Obiano, then, listed some of the achievements of Obiano especially, as it concerned students, youths, and the indigents in the state.
She enjoined them to key into the free skills acquisition training provided the by the Obiano administration to be self-reliant on graduation.
The empowerment, which was in furtherance of the programme of her NGO, `Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFÉ’ was in the form of stipend to the students.
She stated that the support was in response to the plea of the vice-chancellor to CAFÉ.
She highlighted some of the programmes of CAFÉ to include the training and empowerment of 2,600 women, youths and indigent widows.
It also includes building of 10 houses for widows, and 11 toilets to promote hygiene in rural markets across the state.
She urged them to respect constituted authority and be the best they could be for better society.
Earlier in his speech, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Fidelis Okafor, described the visit as the first of its kind since inception of the institution.
Prof. Okafor, then, thanked her for impacting positively on lives of Anambra people through her CAFÉ programme.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to newsmen thanked the wife of the governor for the surprise gesture and prayed God to bless and replenish her pocket.
They also prayed for victory of the governor during the election.
