GOVERNOR Willie Obiano, on November 26, 2017, inaugurated a 90-bedroom hostel named, “Governor Obiano’s Hostel’’, built for students of Christ the King College, Onitsha by his family.
The governor joined the students and the Old Boys of the school to celebrate the Feast of Christ, “The King’’, during which he stood in as the sole sponsor of all candidates for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Obiano expressed regret at the school’s decline in performance against previous achievements and urged for a rebound.
The governor also emphasised the need for discipline and advised the principal to analyse the capacity of the school’s refectory, so that the facility could be expanded.
Responding, Charles Okwumuo, a reverend father and the principal, told the governor that the school had not performed badly.
He explained that some students made A1 in mathematics and many other subjects in the last WAEC examination.
Okwumuo added that the school represented Anambra in three major events and emerged as one of the best 50 schools in the country.
Valerian Okeke, a most reverend and the bishop of Onitsha Archdiocese, commended the staff for their efforts on the students.
He pledged N100, 000 on any student that would make A1 in all subjects in the next WAEC examination.
The old boys, 1997 set, also handed over the basketball pitch they built for the school during the occasion.
