GOVERNOR Willie Obiano has empowered Aguata farmers with five bundles of improved yellow cassava stems each in fulfilment of his promise to boost agriculture.
The governor had promised improved yellow cassava stems in the 21 Local Government Areas, LGAs, of the state.
Speaking at the Aguata Local Government secretariat, Afam Mbanefo, the commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanisation, Processing and Export, said the essence was to improve by yield by 60 per cent, so that they could give to other farmers when they harvest.
Represented by Jude Nwankwo, Mbanefo the State Rice project manager, called on the farmers to collaborate with the ministry in the actualisation of the target.
The commissioner said the reasons for preferring the yellow cassava stem to the normal one, was because the specie had great potential to alleviate Vitamin A deficiency.
Urea fertilizer, which is sold for more than N10, 000 in markets, is sold at subsidised rate of N5, 500 to the farmers.
