GOV. Willie Obiano of Anambra has sworn in the first female Chief Judge of the State, Justice Ijem Onwuamaegbu, as substantive Chief Judge of Anambra State.
Justice Onwuamaegbu was sworn in during a meeting of the State Executive Council at Government House, Awka.
She served as acting Chief Judge of the state over the past four months.
Swearing in the Chief Judge, Obiano said the disposition lent credence to the fact that his administration was gender-sensitive, noting that the chief judge distinguished herself in the legal profession.
The governor also said that the state was working to condense Anambra State laws into e-copy format for easier access.
He explained that the state was working to procure modern equipment for the chief judge for express and seamless dispensation of justice delivery.
Responding, Justice Onwuamaegbu assured that the judges in the state would work harmoniously with his government to deliver the best judicial services to Ndi Anambra.
The Chief Registrar, Chinyere Ossy-Okoye, who administered the oath of office, stressed that her emergence met adequate constitutional provisions.
Justice Onwuamaegbu was duly recommended by the National Judicial Commission, NJC, and confirmed by the Anambra State House of Assembly.
