THE Anya-Ndi-Igbo has thrown its weight behind former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s new-year call on Nigerian youths to save the country by voting for the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the forth coming general elections.

The group made this known on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, in a statement by Uma Eleazu, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Chris Okoye, President, Abraham Nwankwo, Deputy President, Okey Nwadinobi, Secretary, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, Chairman, Finance Committee, Nnedinso Ogaziechi, Representative of Women, Ikechukwu Amaechi, Chairman, Media, and Ikechukwu Bismark Orji, Representative of the Youth.

According to the statement, Obasanjo’s New Year message to all Nigerians, especially young Nigerians reiterates the group’s belief that only Nigerians would be able to save or destroy the country.

They commended Obasanjo for being a leader who has always focused on objectives and condemned those who have kicked against the call, noting that they have other objectives, outside the Unity and Faith of Nigeria.

It said that Obasanjo, who has been writing daring letters, even to his superiors, from early youth to ensure that things were done properly, has only once again reminded all Nigerians that ‘we have a unique opportunity to correct ourselves by ourselves for the good of ourselves.’

“What his letter has reminded us as Nigerians is that each citizen has a stake in what happens now and in the future and this is not about partisanship or any other parochial sentiments that have stunted our growth for a long while.

“Our reading of the latest Letter of the Letterman, OBJ, is that he is focused on the objective of Inclusion, Peace and Development. Interestingly, he admits that all have sinned (First, no group is faultless; second, for the greatness of the whole, we need one another as constituents of the whole; third, we cannot be talking and working for Africa’s integration and for Nigeria’s disintegration at the same time).

“We at Anya Ndi Igbo are thankful to the former President for intervening at this point in Nigeria’s history despite the odds. We call on Igbo youths, in particular, and Nigerian youths, in general to heed Baba’s wise counsel. Among Ndi Igbo, the role of the elder is to direct the young but it is left to the young to use or discard the advice of the elder. He has discharged his leadership and patriotic responsibility.

“Those who are preaching division, segregation, separation, and want to use diversity for their own self and selfish interest are enemies of the nation, no matter what else they may disguisedly profess or proclaim.

“Between his letter to Gowon and his letter MY APPEAL TO ALL NIGERIANS PARTICULARLY YOUNG NIGERIANS, there has been 54 years and the message is the same, know the objective and work towards it. The motto of Nigeria was Unity and Faith, and there can be no better anthem than unity and faith among people, under God. Following a peace accord between Israel and Palestine, there was agreement to free prisoners, but Israeli President EzerWizemann declared that nobody with Israeli Blood in his hand will be let free. But Yasser Arafat retorted that Ezer Wiseman was not wise, because peace is made between former adversaries.

“No matter the outcome of this year’s nation-wide elections, history will record this momentous and patriotic action of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, former President of Nigeria, 1999-2007.” it said
