GOV. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has directed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Knigsly Emu, to liaise with relevant stakeholders and work out the new minimum wage consequential adjustments.
Oborevwori asked the SSG to work with the Commissioner for Finance, Sir Fidelis Tilije, and the leadership of the workers unions.
The Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, who briefed in Asaba, said that the governor gave the directive during the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.
Osuoza said that the N70,000 new minimum wage was a law and that the state government was committed to paying and even doing more.
The commissioner said that the governor was aware of the hardship being faced by workers in the country.
According to him, the SSG and workers unions have one week to work out the consequential adjustments to enable its implementation.
He stated that the council mandated the Commissioner for Agriculture and the Chief Jobs Creation Officer to come up with programmes that would engage and empower youths, women, and other indigent persons.
Osuoza said that the council approved the payment of the state counterpart fund for the Universal Basic Education Commission.
The commissioner further said that the council approved the construction of new roads, rehabilitation, and asphalt overlay of other roads across the three senatorial districts.
According to him, the roads include Ohoro/Bomadi Road in Bomadi Local Government Area (LGA) and NNPC Housing Complex Road in Ekpan, Uvwie LGA.
“Others are Ekiye Street, Obveje Close, Okumagba Layout, Warri South LGA; General Hospital Road, Oghara; Old Sapele/Warri Road, Amukpe, Sapele LGA; and Issele-Azagba/Otulu Road in Anoicha North LGA.
“The council approved the appointment of His Royal Majesty, Ubaka Ogboli, as the Obi of Issele-Mkpitime Kingdom in Aniocha North LGA,” he said.
Mr Charles Aniagwu, Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine) Roads, said that 14 new road projects were approved by the council.
Aniagwu said that most of the road projects would be completed before the government marked its second anniversary.
Mr Ruben Izeze, State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban) Roads, said that the council approved the reclamation of the gully erosion site along the Ibusa/Okpanam bypass in Oshimili North LGA.
Izeze said that when the projects were completed, the challenges of road construction along the axis would be addressed.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Onojame, said that the council approved two CT-Scan machines for Delta State Teaching Hospital, Oghara, and Central Hospital, Warri, for the training of doctors.
Onojame announced that the executive also approved the renovation of 150 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state.
According to him, the state has 441 PHCs, which are the key to health care in any state.
