Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has called on political officer holders to serve the people with humility to the glory of God.
The governor made the call on Sunday, at a thanksgiving service in honour of Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Emeka Nwaobi.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the service was held at St Paul’s Catholic Cathedral Church, Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of the State.
He described Nwaobi, as a good man and urged him to continue serving God with humility.
He also advised him to use his position to bring the people of Aniocha North together for the good of the local government area, and always thank God for good thing done in their lives.
“As we were coming here this morning, we passed through the Ogwashi-Uku stadium where we came for PDP governorship primaries in 2006.
“I passed through that as a delegate then and today I passed through it as governor of Delta State.
“It is only God that can do a thing like that and it is good to give thanks to Him for whatever happens because if Okowa had become governor in 2007 perhaps I wouldn’t have been governor today,” Oborevwori said.
In his remark, Nwaobi thanked God and expressed appreciation to Oborevwori and the party leadership for finding him worthy to serve as Majority Leader of the House.
He pledged his unalloyed loyalty and commitment to the Speaker and members of the House and urged his Aniocha North constituents, particularly, Issele-Uku kingdom, to continue supporting the PDP for more dividends of democracy.
Earlier, Catholic Bishop of Issele-Uku Diocese, Most Rev. Michael Elue, in his sermon entitled, “The Parable of Christ to His disciples”, said God gives to man according to their abilities and urged Christians to excel with the talents given to them by God.
He said that every talent and ability endowed unto man must be used to render service to the glory of God and in furtherance of God’s kingdom.
The Bishop added that God rewards abundantly those who use their God-given talent for the service of God and His kingdom.
The thanksgiving service was attended by the State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, immediate past Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa and his wife Edith, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor and his wife, Timiebi.
