GOV. Usman Ododo of Kogi says he will prioritise the welfare of the citizens of the state.

He made the promise on Wednesday when he returned to Lokoja after his victory at the Supreme Court on Friday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the teeming residents of the state gave the governor an impressive welcome to Lokoja from Abuja.

The Supreme Court had on Friday dismissed the appeal of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Mr Yakubu Ajaka and declared Ododo of All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the state Nov. 11, 2023 governorship election.

Addressing the crowd in Lokoja, Ododo said: “Now that the struggle in court over the governorship poll is over, I am calling all residents of Kogi, irrespective of political difference, to join hands with me to govern the state.

“I am in dire need of everyone’s support to move the state to another level of economic and infrastructural development.

“Kogi is blessed with enormous mineral deposits and such potential can only be harnessed if the people are united and support the current administration.

“As a political party, APC has the philosophy of development and as such, my doors are wide open for advice.

“I need your cooperation and support so that together we can take the state to the promise land and become a centre of attraction to other states in the country”.

Ododo, who also appealed to Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu to enable him to achieve his laudable programmes for the nation, said that the oresident had put measures in place to revive the country’s economy.

In his remarks, the APC Chairman Kogi chapter, Mr Abdullahi Bello, appealed to Ododo to be magnanimous in his victory at the Supreme Court by allowing some members who left the party to return.

Bello congratulated Ododo for the victory and reminded him that the people were expecting him to deliver more dividends of democracy.(NAN)
