THE leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State has commended the efforts of former Ogun State governor Gbenga Daniel for making the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, what members can be proud of. Daniel is contesting to be the national chairman of PDP.
Val Ada Areyenka, deputy state chairman of the party in Delta State, stated this in Asaba during the visitation tour of Gbenga Daniel to the State in his bid for the National Chairman of the PDP.
Areyenka said the sterling performance of Daniel as a governor of Ogun State was a defining moment going by the various projects and policies executed in his 8-year tenure.
“We welcome you to Delta State and also as a distinguish PDP member that has made our party proud”.
Continuing, he stated that; “In Delta State, we are serious PDP members and we are very serious with politics. We make up our mind according to what we see and cannot be cowed by anyone. I want to assure you that come Saturday, we shall all go to the Convention and vote according to our conscience. I only want to implore you that when you get there, don’t forget us and remember the accord between us”.
Responding, Daniel thanked members of the the Delta State PDP for the reception. He said he has been to thirty two states of the federation and what he noticed was that after experiencing an alternative party in power, the PDP is still the party people are clamouring for.
Nigeria, he said is on a tripod and if the Presidency is going to the North and the Vice President is going to the East, it is only expedient that the Chairmanship of the party goes to the West.
The future of the party, he said rests on the choice of the best at the Saturday Convention while imploring the delegates to vote wisely. “I know a lot of people have not made up their mind but as we zero in onto the election day, please, vote wisely”.
In a related development, Daniel paid a courtesy call on the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the just concluded elections in Anambra State, Oseloka Henry Obaze.
He saluted the courage of Obaze for fighting a good battle at the polls. It is pathetic that people do not appreciate efforts but success. “I want to tell you not to give up. You are the best governor Anambra State has not had”.
In his own response, Obaze thanked Daniel for his kind words of encouragement. “I cancelled all my programmes when I got your message that you will be visiting me. All the aspirants are eminently qualified to occupy that position but you have shown something superior above other aspirants”.
“You are the first person to come to me to inform me of your intention. Your pedigree is intact as a governor and a businessman. Everybody knows you. People may say may the better or best candidate win but in their own mind they know who that candidate is”.
“You have the ability to rally everybody together and take the government back to PDP. You have the solid structure across the nation. I wish you were the chairman before my election because I’m convinced that if you were there, I could have won that election”.
“We must select a new leader. I as a person, mark my words, you have my vote”.
