THE Ogun State Commissioners of Information, Waheed Odusile and Works & Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya were in Arepo to flag off the reconstruction works on Journalists Road.
Odusile and Akisanya met with critical stakeholders in the community, listened and spoke with some residents and assured the Olu of Arepo that the project which calculated from today, will take nine months to complete.
“When the Governor invited Traditional rulers of various communities in the State to write to government what were their pressing needs, Arepo told us, this road is the most critical and the governor has listened and today, he has assured, the desire will come true” Odusile noted.
Akinsanya noted that plans are being put in place by the Ministry of Physical Planning to ensure minimal destructions are made and where there are properties affected, those with relevant documents will be adequately compensated”.
The Olu of Arepo Oba Atanda commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for assuaging the plight of the community which he said, suffered eight years of neglect under previous administration in terms of infrastructure deficit.
Chairman, Journalists Estate Residents Development Association, JERDA Phase One, Mrs. Olufunke Fadugba appreciated government for responding to the cries of the Arepo community to fix the Journalists Estate Road which was first rebuilt in 2005 by administration of Otunba Gbenga Daniels.
Fadugba however urged Governor Abiodun to avail the community of more presence by fulfilling the promise to give healthcare to the people.
“Aside road deficit which is now being fixed, Arepo needs a functional Primary Healthcare Centre to cater for the large population of women and children as well as the elderly who rely mostly on private out of pocket care or travel to Lagos to access Primary healthcare”.
