Ogun Assembly warns LG chiefs against illegal collection of fees
Politics
THE Ogun State House of Assembly on Tuesday warned against the collection of unauthorized fees by local governments in the state.
The Speaker, Mr. Olakunle Oluomo, gave the warning while responding to the submission of Mr. Solomon Osho (APC – Remo North), who spoke under personal explanation during plenary in Abeokuta.
Osho had alleged extortion of commercial motorcyclists by officials of Remo North Local Government Area.
Oluomo noted that he had equally received protest letters from different people on the matter, especially from Remo North and Ijebu North Local Government Areas of the state.
The speaker stated that after the Harmonised Revenue Law had been passed by the Assembly, it was illegal for anyone to introduce any other fee under the guise of revenue collection.
He called on the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Afolabi Afuape, to set machinery in motion to stop the illegal collection of the fee in order not to put an unnecessary financial burden on the people of the state.
Also at the plenary, the Ogun State Survey (Amendment) Law, 2020 scaled first reading shortly after the Clerk of the Assembly, Mr. Deji Adeyemo, did the first reading of the bill. (NAN)
