THE Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Ogun chapter, has commended Gov. Dapo Abiodun for implementing the revised Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and the new minimum wage.

They said that honouring his words was a major commitment to the welfare of medical professionals in the state.

Addressing newsmen in Abeokuta on Saturday, the chairman, Dr. Ogunjimi Lukman, expressed appreciation on behalf of the association.

He said the governor’s action showed government’s responsiveness to healthcare professionals’ concerns.

“Today, we convey our heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun, for keeping his promise.

“This commitment from the government is a clear demonstration of its dedication to the welfare of doctors in Ogun state,” Ogunjimi said.

He recalled that members of the association had resolved to embark on a strike beginning August 5, 2024, following an Emergency General Meeting on July 23.

He said the plan, however, was temporarily suspended on August 29 to allow for negotiations with the state government.

Ogunjimi, however, said some concerns remained unaddressed, particularly regarding doctors associated with Olabisi Onabanjo University and medical professionals under the Hospital Management Board (HMB) and the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Ogunjimi assured that discussions on these issues would continue with the government in the coming days to ensure fair treatment and support across all medical departments.

He also reiterated the commitment of the association to constructive engagement with the government for the good of the health sector.  (NAN)
