THE Ogun Government, in collaboration with the World Bank through the Ogun State Economic
Transformation Project (OGSTEP), announced scholarships for 1000 girls into technical colleges.

The information is in a statement by Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, on Thursday in Abeokuta.

He stated that the scholarship is part of efforts to improve economic opportunities and financial independence among women.

He added that “the scholarship would cover any girl who enrolls in any of the eight government science and technical colleges for technical
trade such as welding, automotive repairs, electrical engineering, carpentry, and joinery.”

The commissioner noted that the initiative covers textbooks, equipment and stipends for a three-year period, ensuring the young women the resources they need to succeed.

Arigbabu said interested candidates who possess either a Basic Education Certificate or Senior School Certificate are to register for their choice of trade and college for free.

He added that they can register through the Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA) platform by logging into ogsera.ogunstate.gov.ng/tvet,

using their Learner’s Identification Number (LIN) from Monday, Aug. 5 to Friday, Aug. 30.

In a related development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, said the scholarship will encourage girls
to compete favourably with their male counterparts in the engineering field.

She said this during a community engagement on Thursday in Ijebuode.

She noted that the initiative is expected to enhance their economic livelihood and contribute to the economic advancement of the state and the nation.

She also disclosed that all government technical colleges in the state are being rehabilitated and equipped with modern facilities to meet global standards.
