Ibe Kachikwu, Nigeria’s Petroleum minister, apologises to Nigerians over his flippant remark about his inability to end the lingering scarcity of fuel in the country, adding that the crisis will be over by April 7

Ibe Kachikwu, Nigeria’s minister of state for petroleum resources has reversed his earlier flippant comment that fuel queues would linger till May in the country. He now says the long queues would disappear before Monday, April 6 or by Tuesday 7. He has also apologised to Nigerians for his flippancy.

Kachikwu, who is also the group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, stated this when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) on Tuesday, March 29. He also told them of his plans to end the lingering fuel scarcity which has made life very difficult for Nigerians.

His recant is coming after he was flayed for saying that he does not have a magic wand to end the fuel crisis by prominent members of the All Progressives Congress party who thought his statement detestable. Even Bola Tinubu, leader of the All Progressives Congress, took a swipe at him at weekend, asking him to resign and apologise to Nigerians for his cavalier statement.

Kachikwu, who is also the group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, showed optimism at the Senate today that the fuel crisis in the country will end soon.
