GODWIN Olofua, Nigeria’s badminton player at the Tokyo Olympics, says quality training and coaching are necessary for the country’s badminton players to excel at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Olofua told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Team Nigeria’s exit from the Tokyo Olympic Games was indeed painful.
The 22-year-old teamed up with Anuoluwapo Opeyori in the men’s doubles but lost all three group matches in Group B to hosts Japan, Denmark and the Russia Olympic Committee (ROC).
This means Team Nigeria failed to qualify for the quarter-finals stage.
But Olofua believes better preparation can well compliment their efforts.
“To win a medal in the next Olympics, we need lots of tournaments, training tours, good facilities and great coaches. I don’t see anything that our opponents are playing that we cannot play.
“We have the talents in Nigeria, the passion, the zeal and I trust that we can do better with the right structures,’’ Olofua added.(NAN)
