Omoniyi Ibietan’s book  on Cyber Politics in Nigeria launched

THE book Cyber Politics: Social Media, Social Demography and Voting behaviour in Nigeria  written by Omoniyi Ibietan, head of Media Relations of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, was formally launched on July 25.

Published by Premium Times Books, Frank Nweke Jnr. former minister of Information of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, chaired the event at the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC’s, Communication and Digital complex at Mbora district, Abuja, with Tajudeen Abbas as the special guest of honour along with other dignitaries who were either present or ably represented.

Professor Umar Danbatta, executive vice chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, who incidentally wrote the foreword, presented the book to the public.

The EVC of NCC formally presenting the book, the author, Ibietan by the EVC’s immediate left, Frank Nweke the chairman of the occasion and others look on.

He described the book as a “compelling narrative, a scholar’s guide and companion on the various political communication themes it interprets. It is difficult to put down this work once you are drawn by its alluring and free-flowing prose and incisive analysis.”

The 460-page book, spread over 12 chapters was reviewed by Azubuike Ishiekwene, the editor-in-chief of Abuja-based Leadership Newspapers, which was followed by a discourse on the topic ‘The Cyber Context of Political communication and the Implications of Democracy in Africa” before a panel session that had the author Omoniyi Ibietan, Mojeed Dahiru-Writer, Public Affairs Analyst and CEO Orascom Resources, Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi, professor of Mass Communication and deputy dean, Postgraduate School, Baze University, Abuja, as  Panelists. Chido Onumah, social entrepreneur, journalist, author and coordinator, African Center for information and Mediea Litracy, AFRILMIL, moderated the panel session focused  on how cyber politics has  played out and shaped the last two general elections in Nigeria.

Nigeria’s 2015 presidential election was the sounding board from which analyses that offer great insights into the future of voting behaviour in the country were made in the book that is both skilful in its rendition and ground-cutting in its intellectual approach.”
