GOV. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State says the state is making steady progress towards a destination of all-round development and prosperity.
Aiyedatiwa stated this in a message to mark the 49th anniversary of the creation of the state issued on Monday in Akure by his Spokesperson, Mr Ebenezer Adeniyan.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ondo State was carved out of the old Western Region on Feb. 3, 1976 by the military administration of General Murtala Muhammed.
Since its creation 49 years ago, the state has produced 19 governors – 12 military governors and seven civilian governors, including Aiyedatiwa who was sworn in on Dec. 27, 2023.
The governor commended the founding fathers of the state for their courage, foresight and invaluable contributions towards making the state great.
He also appreciated past leaders in terms of sustainable development and inclusive growth, with the potential to be greater.
Aiyedatiwa, who promised sustainable development, reiterated the commitment of his administration to maximising the potential of the state for the benefit of the generality of the people.
He called on the residents to continue to provide support for his administration as he continues to navigate the ship of the state towards a safe harbour.
“As the state heads towards its 50th creation anniversary next year, a committee will soon be constituted to draw up modalities for the Golden Anniversary celebration of the Sunshine State,” the governor concluded. (NAN)
