THE Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, Abayomi Oladipo, on Wednesday said that no group had indicated interest to protest in the state.

Oladipo stated this at a joint security briefing in Akure ahead of the Aug.1 to Aug.10 nationwide hunger protest.

The commissioner of police emphasised that the command would only tolerate peaceful protest, warning residents against violent protest.

He reiterated that security agencies in the state have the sacrosanct mandate to maintain peace, and protect lives and property.

“There have not been any group of persons who have indicated interest to participate in the protest inline with the virtual meeting held with the Inspector-General of Police.

“We are not taking it for granted that people have not indicated interest, or that people are not planning to protest. Peaceful protest will be tolerated, violence protest will not be allowed.

“For those transiting the state, your security is guaranteed.

“To the security agents, you have right to life like all other Nigerians. I want you to be ready for the worst case scenario.

“All the security forces will work professionally within the ambit of the law. People should go about their normal businesses,” he said.

Abayomi advised residents to provide necessary information to the nearest security agents if they noticed or heard anything untoward. (NAN)
