Organisation conducts free eye checks for 30 in Jos

A voluntary health-based organisation, Sazion Eye Services, says it has conducted free eye checks for 30 persons in Jos South Local Government Area to mark the World Sight Day.
The Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Dr Chika Ugagu, an optometrist, said that the free eye checks remained the organisation’s way of giving back to the society.
She said this during the free eye checks it in conducted on Friday in Jos.
According to her, the theme of the 2022 World Sight Day entitled “Love Your Eyes’’ is salient as it increases the awareness on the importance of the populace to prioritise eye health.
She also advised that “it is fundamental to have a comprehensive eye check at least once annually to detect glaucoma and other eye ailments’’.
She said early detection was the best strategy to fight glaucoma, stating that “if it is detected early the individual would be placed on eye drops.
“This will help control the production of fluid in the eyeball and increase the drainage to avoid the buildup of pressure in the eyeball’’.
Ugagu also cautioned people against engaging in harmful practices such as putting of various substances in the eyes to treat eye discharge and colour change, especially in the eyes of babies.(NAN)
