Osinbajo Returns, Assumes Office as Acting President

VICE-PRESIDENT Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday, January 19, night returned to Abuja after his official engagements in Davos, Switzerland, where he participated in this year’s World Economic Forum to take charge as acting president.

Laolu Akande, senior special assistant on Media and Publicity to the vice-president, who confirmed the development in a statement issued in Abuja, Friday, January 20, however, said that Osinjabo will be in Ibadan, Oyo State for official engagements.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Thursday, January 19, left Abuja for the United Kingdom on a short leave, where he would have medical checks. The leave is also part of his annual vacation.

Femi Adesina, special adviser on Media and Publicity, who disclosed this in a statement, on Thursday, said that “the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, will perform the functions of the Office of the president.’’

He said that President Buhari would return to office on February 6, 2017.
